We are an ACGME-accredited program providing both a four year categorical residency program starting as a PGY1, and a three year advanced residency program beginning at the CA1 level. We currently accept 5 residents per year: 2 categorical and 3 advanced residents.
The University of Missouri-Columbia is a Level 1 trauma center which serves as a referral hospital for mid-Missouri and surrounding states. The residents are exposed to a variety of surgical and obstetrical cases at all acuity levels. Our residents exceed the American Board of Anesthesiology residency training requirements in all areas.
For our categorical residents, internship year rotations include medicine, surgery, pediatrics, emergency medicine, and anesthesia rotations. They develop a broad base of clinical experience to prepare for the clinical anesthesia years. After entering the clinical anesthesia years (CA1-CA3) our residents rotate through clinical rotations with increasing clinical complexity and responsibility. We provide a comprehensive didactic program including clinical teaching, morning and afternoon conferences, journal club, simulation sessions, and computer based teaching.
We have an outstanding group of faculty with a wide breadth of experience to share with the residents. Our residents are a wonderful group of physicians who we enjoying teaching and having as part of our anesthesia team.
