Cardiology

The pediatric cardiology division offers comprehensive multidisciplinary team management for congenital and acquired heart disease from fetal-life through adolescence. The division has state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment and provides the only expert angioplasty, valvuloplasty and pediatric cardiac surgery in central Missouri.

Pediatric cardiology services offered at Children's Hospital include:

  • Comprehensive cardiac examinations by a board-certified pediatric cardiologist
  • Noninvasive cardiovascular procedures such as electrocardiography, Holter monitoring, phonocardiography, echocardiography, Doppler cardiography, impedance cardiography and exercise stress testing
  • Counseling in the areas of genetics, nutrition, physical activities, bacterial endocarditis precautions, rheumatic fever prophylaxis and psychosocial problems
  • Regular cardiac follow-up to early adulthood with vocational guidance and genetic counseling
  • Close communication with family members, local social workers, teachers and referring physicians
