The History of the Program

Dr. Norm Asel established dermatology at MU in 1960. We began our residency-training program in 1963 under the direction of Philip C. Anderson, MD. We are one of the younger programs, almost unique in our focus on small community and rural dermatology. We are especially proud of our residency program that includes 9 trainees and 104 graduated residents. Our residency program enjoys a 100% success rate in Board Certification for our graduates. More than 100 other MU medical students have developed an interest in dermatology as a lifetime career, sufficient to enter the specialty through residency programs elsewhere. We have accumulated an "intellectual family" of almost 200 dermatologists during these 40 years of operation.
