Preparing Physicians for Successful Practice
Thank you for your interest in the University of Missouri School of Medicine. We are proud of our heritage as the oldest public medical school west of the Mississippi River and excited about the future. With the help of our major clinical teaching partner, University of Missouri Health Care, many exciting things are happening in all three areas of our mission: education, clinical care and research.
Graduate medical education prepares physicians for practice in a medical specialty. GME focuses on the development of clinical skills and professional competencies and on the acquisition of detailed factual knowledge in a medical specialty. The programs are based in hospitals or other health care institutions and, in most specialties, utilize both inpatient and ambulatory settings, reflecting the importance of care for adequate numbers of patients in the GME experience.
