Presented by guitarist and composer Jason Crigler and his sister, Marjorie Crigler
7 p.m., Thursday, April 29
Reynolds Alumni Center

The 2010 Carlos Perez-Mesa lecture, "Defying the Odds: It Goes Far Beyond Hope," will be delivered through a multimedia presentation by guitarist and recording artist Jason Crigler and his sister, Marjorie Crigler. The Criglers will share an inspirational story of recovery following Jason's brain hemorrhage during a concert in 2004, which is the subject of the acclaimed documentary Life. Support. Music.

Carlos Perez-Mesa, MD, held many appointments at the MU School of Medicine, Ellis Fischel Cancer Center and the Cancer Research Center of Columbia. He was a respected cancer researcher, clinician and teacher. He also was a loving husband and father who was passionate about the arts and humanities.

The endowed Carlos Perez-Mesa, MD, Lectureship in Medical Humanities was established at MU in his honor to further discussions that focus on the art and ethics of medicine.

The event is sponsored by the Carlos Perez-Mesa, MD, Lectureship in Medical Humanities, Center for Health Ethics, School of Medicine and Center for Arts & Humanities.
