Kidney Program Director To Chair National Social Work Organization

Leanne Peace named National Kidney Foundation's Chairperson-Elect for Council of Nephrology Social Workers

Leanne Peace has been named the National Chairperson-Elect of the Council of Nephrology Social Workers of the National Kidney Foundation. She serves as director of the Missouri Kidney Program at the University of Missouri. Peace will assume the position in 2011 and was elected by a group of her peers.

She earned her master's degree in health management from the University of Missouri in 2008 and a master's degree in social work from the University of Missouri in 1990. Peace worked as a medical social worker for Dialysis Inc. in Columbia for more than 11 years before joining University of Missouri Health Care as a transplant and dialysis social worker in 2000. She joined the Missouri Kidney Program in 2009.

Peace's research interests include the follow-up care of kidney transplant and renal transplant patients and their adherence to medication guidelines, as well as hemodialysis procedures. She recently co-authored articles in the Journal of Geriatric Nursing about electronic medication monitoring in renal transplant patients and in Clinical Transplantation about adult kidney transplant patients and their immunosuppressive medications.

The Missouri Kidney Program, part of the MU School of Medicine, helps meet the medical, educational and psychosocial needs of Missouri residents who have chronic renal insufficiency or have had a renal transplant.
