“Video-based health care offers patients who live in rural areas the ability to connect with specialists in urban settings without leaving their communities,” said Karen Edison, MD, medical director of the Missouri Telehealth Network, director of MU’s Center for Health Policy and chair of the MU School of Medicine’s Department of Dermatology. “The 2016 Missouri Telehealth Summit will bring together experts in the field to discuss new opportunities and challenges with telemedicine and how we can use this technology to improve the lives of patients throughout the state.”

Presenters at the summit will discuss advances in telehealth technology, current state and federal policies, legislative initiatives, payment and reimbursement models, best practices and the use of the Show-Me ECHO model to empower rural providers to treat specialty conditions.

In addition to Edison, presenters will include Mario Gutierrez, executive director of the Center for Connected Health Policy; Rep. Diane Franklin, R-Camdenton; Rep. Kip Kendrick, D-Columbia; Sen. Gary Romine, R-Farmington; Kristin Sohl, MD, associate professor of child health at the MU School of Medicine; and other state and national telehealth experts.

“The summit is a way to create and explore collaborative relationships, and we invite anyone interested in learning more about telemedicine to attend,” said Rachel Mutrux, senior program director of the Missouri Telehealth Network.

The summit is free to attend, but registration is required. To register and for more information, please visit http://medicine.missouri.edu/CME/2016mts.
