Spine Fellowship

kuhnsWelcome to the University of Missouri Department of Orthopaedic Surgery Spine Fellowship program. We are happy that you are taking the time to look at our program more closely and hope that the information we’ve provided will give you a better sense of who we are.

With our institution’s support of our department and departmental support of our program, we have been afforded opportunities to enhance our educational curriculum that continue to push us ahead of the curve. A perfect example of this is our new 115,500-square-foot orthopaedic hospital, the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute (MOI), which houses 7 operating rooms, 45 clinic exam rooms and 18 in-patient beds with further expansion planned over the next 3 years. In addition, we operate in a new surgical tower opened at the University Hospital complete with navigation capability and best-in-class inpatient facilities.

As a fellow in our program, you will have the opportunity to become very competent in complex degenerative and trauma cases, spinal deformity, as well as minimally invasive spinal surgery. Spine faculty perform over 600 cases per year and are actively involved in clinical instruction, preparing you for any condition and all spinal diseases.

Our program offers vast research opportunities in both the clinical and basic science realms, with the fellow’s goal of producing a manuscript by the end of the fellowship year. You will also live in a vibrant college town that provides the entertainment, sports and culture of a larger city while enjoying the relaxed atmosphere and short commutes of a smaller city.

I hope that you will take the time to learn more about our program and our community and look forward to potentially meeting you during recruitment season.

Sincerely,

Theodore J. Choma, MD
Program Director
