About

The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Missouri School of Medicine is a leading provider of psychiatric care for the region. The department is experiencing a dramatic transformation as it realizes its vision of a new facility that integrates mental health care with other medical care, resulting in a better environment for patients and for medical students, residents and staff.

In 2009, John Lauriello, MD, arrived as Chancellor's Chair of Excellence in Psychiatry and medical director of the newly opened University of Missouri Psychiatric Center. Since then, more than 10 new faculty members have joined the department as the center undergoes a more than $13 million renovation, which will allow for an expansion of outpatient psychiatric clinics and services.

Our University Hospital services include the Green Meadow University Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic, a Psychosomatic Consultation Service and the University Child Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic. The Department is affiliated with a broad array of mental health facilities, including the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran's Administration Hospital, Fulton State Hospital, Royal Oaks Hospital, Burrell Behavioral Health and the Thompson Center for Autism and Neurodevelopmental Disorders.

Our department is committed to state of the art clinical care, teaching and research. We are rapidly expanding our faculty to meet the clinical and training needs of the region. In the next few years the department plans to recruit researchers to work alongside our strong clinical educator faculty.
