Russell D. and Mary B. Shelden Clinical Simulation Center
Welcome to the Russell D. and Mary B. Shelden Clinical Simulation Center. We are excited to offer programs to improve patient care and safety, explore new research opportunities and provide life-long learning experiences to medical and nursing students, along with health professionals in all areas of care.
At the Shelden Clinical Simulation Center, we use a broad range of simulation methods to enhance all phases of health care education. The use of simulation mannequins in medical instruction is the new wave of education for health professionals. The advanced technology allows students and health care professionals to perform various medical procedures while receiving real-time feedback in much the same way they would from a human patient. The mannequins breathe, have a pulse, have eyes that dilate and can react to various drugs. The experience for medical students and health care professionals alike, is invaluable.
From novice to practicing health care professionals, we build competency in individuals and teams through experiential learning, assessment and feedback. Our patient-centered simulation and standardized patient interactions provide structured practice in a safe environment with a focus on:
- Health, safety and satisfaction of our patients
- Clinical knowledge and decision making
- Communication skills
- Situational awareness
- Compassion and respect
- Collaborative teamwork
- Ethical behavior
- High quality, effective care
The center is dedicated to the continuous improvement of people and processes and the transformation of health care education through research, hard work, life-long learning, and clinical and academic excellence.
