Profile

Eduardo Simoes, MD, is a researcher, educator and leader at the University of Missouri School of Medicine.

Simoes conducts research related to medical epidemiology, health informatics and population health. Among other topics, he examines methods to improve disease prevention, health planning, policy development, health care management and evaluation, information technology, public health programs and global health initiatives.

At the University of Missouri, Simoes teaches courses in population health, epidemiology (disease incidence and control), preventive medicine, data analytics and health care applications of information technology. Before joining MU in 2011, he provided leadership for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for nine years, directing the Division of Adult and Community Health’s Prevention Research Center Program Office. Prior to that, Simoes served the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services for 9 years as chief epidemiologist and visiting associate with CDC for two years. Previously, he was also a primary care doctor and district medical officer with public health service of Brazil for nine years.

Simoes has published over 170 peer reviewed articles, 15 book chapters and more than 35 reports in the health field. He has presented at more than 180 national and international health conferences, 59 as invited speaker. He has obtained over $30 million in external funding for research. He has consulted for numerous organizations including the World Bank, World Health Organization, Pan American Health Organization, and ministries of health of Mexico, Brazil, Japan, China, and Italy. He is a fellow of the American College of Epidemiology.
