‘Bridging the Gaps’ Event Receives Funding for Expansion

The Department of Orthopaedic Surgery has been awarded funding to expand its ‘Bridging the Gaps’ event into Kansas City in Columbia.

Abdoulie Njai, MPH, MD, a first-year orthopaedic surgery resident who co-organized the event was awarded the 2024 American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeon (AAOS) IDEA Grant™ award. The program is a multi‐year initiative created to inspire diversity, equity and access (IDEA) across the orthopaedics field.

‘Bridging the Gaps’ was first held in February 2023 at the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute. The event was a collaboration between the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery and School of Medicine aimed at bringing more diversity into medicine.
