David Gozal, MD, MBA, received an honorary doctorate from the University of Lleida in Spain for his contributions in advancing the school’s research programs. Gozal, who serves as chair of the Department of Child Health, traveled to Spain to accept the honor during a ceremony on Oct. 17.
Gozal has a long history of collaboration with the university of Lleida, one of the oldest universities in Europe (established in 1300), and the first university in Catalonia and the whole Crown of Aragon. He served as a research collaborator with the University of Lleida for more than a dozen years. During this time, he also served as a scientific adviser and mentor to students, post-doctoral students and junior faculty members.
“I was involved in helping the University of Lleida develop its translational program in sleep research, which is now recognized worldwide for its contributions to understanding sleep apnea phenotypic heterogeneity and for formulating the first precision medicine approaches in this disease,” Gozal said. “This is a tremendous honor for me, and I am proud of the university and our efforts to advance the science of sleep.”
