Simon Tang, PhD, Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthopaedics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis spent the day with MU’s Orthopaedic Research Team on Friday, December 13.
Dr. Tang toured the Thompson Lab, met with research leadership, and gave a research presentation titled “Investigating the Mechanisms of Low Back Pain: The Role of Intervertebral Disc Degeneration, Inflammation, and Mechanical Loading.”
Dr. Tang’s research works to understand the biological regulation of skeletal matrix quality. His team integrates engineering and biology approaches to (1) understand the effect of disease mechanisms on the structure-function relationships of skeletal tissues and (2) develop translatable therapeutic and regenerative strategies for these diseases.
