Matt Smith, MD, was recently elected as an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons (ASES) society.
Smith is the outpatient medical director at MU Health Care’s Missouri Orthopaedic Institute and an associate professor of orthopaedic surgery in the School of Medicine. Smith currently serves as the vice president of the Missouri Shoulder and Elbow Society.
“It is truly an honor to have been nominated for and advanced to active member in the society of American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons,” Smith said. “It is a pleasure to work with outstanding surgeons from around the world to advance the care of shoulder and elbow pathology. I hope to work with these men and women who are great physicians, scientists and friends for many years to come.”
ASES encourages educational programs and research to advance the science and practice of shoulder and elbow care. Membership is by invitation only, and prospective members must meet strict academic and clinical requirements. The society is responsible for development of scientific programs, organization of current knowledge, standardization of nomenclature and publication of scientific materials.
