Two assistant professors of orthopaedic surgery at MU were recently selected into leadership roles with professional societies.
Daniel London, MD, was selected as one of the 2023 American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH) Young Leaders. The ASSH Young Leaders Program gives enthusiastic and dedicated young members the chance to increase their involvement in the ASSH. Members selected for this program first participate in an active, ongoing discussion to identify key issues within the upper extremity profession. They present their research and findings to council and attend workshops on how to function effectively as a leader, how to advance the field of hand surgery and the Society through leadership, how to achieve consensus and foster a sense of community, and how to work effectively with a professional staff. The ASSH aims to advance the science and practice of hand and upper extremity surgery through education, research and advocacy on behalf of patients and practitioners.
Julia Nuelle, MD, was elected as a Fellow of the American Orthopaedic Association (AOA). Fewer than 6% of orthopaedic surgeons achieve AOA membership, with the FAOA designation identifying those among the top orthopaedic leaders in the country. The AOA, which was established in 1887, is the oldest orthopaedic association in the United States. The AOA’s mission is to engage the orthopaedic community to develop leaders, strategies, and resources to guide the future of musculoskeletal care.
