Megan Johnson, MD, associate professor of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health at the University of Missouri School of Medicine was recently honored with the 2025 Association of Professors of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) Humanism in Teaching Award.

The national award honors OB-GYN educators from APGO member departments who are outstanding role models in the teaching of OG-GYN. Awardees are recognized as not only skilled clinicians but also as exemplary educators who foster compassionate, respectful and empathetic treatment of learners, healthcare teams, patients and families.

“It’s an incredible honor to receive this award and be recognized by the APGO,” said Johnson. “This award speaks volumes to the talented leadership and team we possess at the Mizzou School of Medicine Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health. Our residents and medical students possess a high commitment to integrity and excellence and are an absolute joy to teach.”

Johnson, who serves as the department’s director of simulation for residents, was nominated by her mentor Jean Ricci Goodman, MD, William T. and Roberta Ann Griffin endowed chair of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women’s Health.

“Dr. Johnson’s professionalism, empathy and humility shine through in all aspects of her work,” said Goodman. “What truly sets her apart is her inherent kindness and tireless advocacy for others. Dr. Johnson’s commitment to humanism in medicine elevates everyone around her, inspiring a culture of empathy and excellence.”

Johnson and other 2025 award winners will be recognized at the APGO Annual Meeting in Seattle, Washington, in February. The APGO strives to promote excellence in women’s healthcare by providing optimal resources and support to educators who inspire, instruct, develop and empower women’s healthcare providers to improve the quality of life for all women.
