The American Journal of Sports Medicine recently published James Stannard, MD and James Cook’s, DVM, PhD, OTSC patient outcomes study on cartilage restoration surgeries using donor tissue to treat injuries to the knee.
Major advances in pain relief, improved function, and lower 1- to 4-year revision and failure rates compared to previous studies published in medical journals were noted. These improved results occurred with the use of the Missouri Osteochondral Preservation System (MOPSSM) donor tissue storage method, pre-treatment of donor bone with the patient’s own bone marrow cells, precision-medicine advances in graft-cutting, implantation, and stabilization techniques, and patient-specific rehabilitation protocols.
