IM Residency 2020: University of Missouri Health Care

Bio:I chose to pursue a fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Missouri due to the collaborative environment that fosters excellent learning opportunities. I'm most interested in optimizing functional life-span and helping patients live life to its fullest for as long as possible. In the future, I look forward to caring for patients in skilled and assisted-living nursing facilities and working with community-based aging nonprofit organizations.

I enjoy hiking, camping, backpacking, fishing, playing the piano and bicycling. Columbia has many great trails located across town and plenty of natural beauty in nearby state parks. Also, Columbia hosts a variety of musical, cycling/running, and cultural events throughout the year, so regardless of your interests, there is always something for mid-Missourians to do.

IM Residency 2020: Freeman Health System; Joplin, Mo

Bio: One of the things I love about the program at Mizzou is how focused the HPM team is on the humanity of every patient. In the midst of the technical medical complications that come with end-of-life care, often the best healing we can offer is to recognize the person the patient is, and then meet his/her needs. That is the kind of physician I have always wanted to be, and I’m grateful to be a part of a program that can help me become that person.

VHA Physician 2011-2020: Truman VA Hospital

Bio: For me, choosing this program was a no-brainer, as I was familiar with the high caliber training that the University of Missouri provides. Also, the palliative medicine faculty and staff are so approachable and welcoming, as well as genuinely supportive of their fellows and other learners.

Columbia MO has a lot to offer: fantastic restaurants, great public schools, and public parks that the entire family can enjoy.

FM Residency 2020: University of Missouri Health Care

Bio: I chose to join this program as the structured training combined with flexibility of elective time will allow me to tailor the type of training I receive to my own particular career goals.

Columbia: What can’t I say about Columbia? Overall, I like that Columbia has everything I would want in a bigger city (the museums, concerts, University Sports) with a small town feel where I don’t spend over 30 minutes trying to get anywhere in town. I am also a really big fan of how accessible the parks and trails are in Columbia.

Bio: Sports have guided my entire life. I began playing hockey as soon as I learned to walk. I transitioned my focus from athletics to medicine during medical school here at MU.

I fell in love with the culture here; patients come first and everyone is driven to better themselves for those patients. After completing family medicine residency at Mizzou, I continued my training in sports medicine to learn from the best of the best. It is an honor to work with top tier athletes and help get them back on the field to pursue their dreams. I am hopeful to have the opportunity to stay in Columbia and continue serving the community after fellowship.
