The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine offers a residency program that provides an environment of support and academic growth.

The Anesthesiology training program at the MU has a long history of educating medical students and residents in Mid-Missouri.

Meet the current residents in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine.

We accept five residents per year into our program

• Three categorical (intern) positions starting at the PGY1 year
• Two physician (R) positions for residents entering at the PGY2 (CA1) year

Residents applying for a PGY2 (CA1) position must currently be in an intern year, or have previously completed an intern year.

The University of Missouri provides a formal didactic program which includes morning lectures, a training level specific afternoon lecture series, individual and group simulation sessions and computer based learning.

Residents participate in mock oral exams twice per year. They also participate in journal clubs and keyword learning sessions. Along with the formal didactics, education occurs as informal teaching with faculty in the clinical setting.

PGY1 (Internship) for Categorical Residents

• Rotating internship consisting of surgery, internal medicine, pediatric, emergency medicine and anesthesiology.
• Rotations include time both at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital and University Hospital.

At the MU Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine we offer comprehensive training in perioperative patient care, pain management and intensive care medicine. Our department houses 28 faculty members who offer education for medical students.
