Seeing the Future of Patient Care
At the University of Missouri School of Medicine’s Department of Ophthalmology, we are committed to skilled, compassionate care. We believe that the best health care occurs in a University setting because bright, hard working medical students, residents, and fellows create a learning environment that attracts the best clinicians and surgeons from around the world. We are fortunate to have world-renowned faculty who have chosen to combine teaching and research with excellent clinical and surgical care for our patients.
Eye care services provided include refractive surgery, cataract surgery, macular degeneration, retinal disease, corneal transplantation, glaucoma, ocular oncology, neuro-ophthalmology, plastic surgery, children’s eye care, low vision, trauma and treatment for many types of eye disease. Our faculty and staff feel privileged to care for Missourians and are committed to being a center of excellence for ophthalmology in the midwest.
In addition to treating more than 30,000 patients per year, our faculty and students conduct ground-breaking research in both the basic and clinical sciences. Research laboratories and support facilities span the entire second floor of the Mason Eye Institute with additional space located across the street at the Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital. Research interests within the department are diverse and cover a wide range of ophthalmologic problems.
