Our physician-researchers excel in radiation-based cancer treatments and research to improve patient outcomes.
The Department of Radiation Oncology at the School of Medicine has a team of multidisciplinary experts in research and clinical care. Our physicians, researchers and nurses advance the treatment of cancers for all Missourians through education and training, clinical trials and the use of new technologies.
Our faculty members practice at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, a state of art oncology facility that serves the needs of more than 800 cancer patients in mid-Missouri each year. The original location was the first dedicated cancer center west of the Mississippi River.
Researching New Treatments
Our department includes experts in the latest therapies and technologies, including The Ethos System™ which allows us to deliver advanced daily precision treatments.
Scientific research gives rise to innovative approaches to treat cancer. Our department has research laboratories housed in the NextGen Precision Health building. We are leading the way in defining host autoimmunity as a cause for radiation effects and injuries in research funded by the National Cancer Institute. Through the Siemens Alliance as our industry research partnership, we are investigating high-definition imaging through 7-Tesla MRI scans to better define indications and targets for radiation treatment.
