1. Do I need to apply for a transitional or intern year?
- Yes
2. Do you have a minimum USMLE score requirement?
- No. Applicants are required to have taken both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. Scores and academic performance are considered when offering interviews and ranking applicants.
3. Do you accept international graduates into your program?
- All applications submitted are considered.
4. Do you consider applications from DOs?
- We have many DO’s within our program and accept COMLEX scores for submission.
- Applicants are required to have taken both USMLE Step 1 and Step 2. It is important to note that all osteopathic applicants must complete an ACGME-accredited internship prior to entering an ACGME-accredited diagnostic radiology program.
5. How many residency positions are available?
- We have a complement of six Diagnostic residents and one Interventional - Integrated resident per class.
6. What is the night float and call system?
- Residents have graduated overnight responsibilities throughout their training
- All call blocks are staffed by four residents and occur in two week increments
- Junior residents begin with an evening shift, 5pm to 1am
- Senior residents rotate between a late evening shift of 7pm to 3am and an overnight shift 10pm to 8am
- Weekend call consists of Saturday and Sunday days and is staffed by two residents
- A separate holiday call schedule allows residents to divide up holiday call based on prioritized requests
7. What is the volume of radiological studies performed at the University of Missouri Health Care?
- Approximately 400,000 radiological studies are performed at University of Missouri Health Care each year.
8. What facilities participate in resident training?
- The primary clinical institution is University of Missouri Health Care, however residents also rotate through Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, Harry S. Truman Memorial Veteran's Hospital, Birthing Center, and the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute. We have an optional away rotation in Hannibal, MO, providing residents with the opportunity to experience private practice in a rural setting.
9. Are funds available for educational needs?
- Each resident is allotted a $1000 educational fund for each of the four years of their participation in the program to be used for books, journals, and meeting expenses.
- In addition, the department provides the Brant and Helms radiology text to each PGY2 resident.
- The program also provides StatDX and eAnatomy throughout training and several Q-banks during CORE study time in the R3 year.
