The Springfield Summer Clinical Experience is a four-week summer program between the first and second years of medical school. The experience allows up to eight students the opportunity to learn from physicians in Springfield, Missouri, while being introduced to the practice of medicine in that community.
Through the Springfield Summer Clinical Experience, students will increase their knowledge of community practice by working with an experienced preceptor. Preceptors will be with the CoxHealth and Mercy health systems in Springfield. Preceptors from several specialties are available, and student choice is considered in making assignments. Students may spend four weeks with one specialty or two weeks in two specialties.
Students will also improve their clinical skills in history taking, physical examination, assessment and medical management and will explore common acute clinical problems. This clinical experience allows students to experience the medical community setting on the Springfield Clinical Campus.
Students receive a $1,600 stipend to support their experience.
