The Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Missouri School of Medicine offers a residency program that provides an environment of support and academic growth.

For more than 60 years, the University of Missouri Department of Anesthesiology has been dedicated to training physicians to become diplomats of the American Board of Anesthesiology. Our residency program offers a wide array of routine and challenging clinical cases. In addition, opportunities in clinical and basic science research are available for residents.

Our residency program offers a wide array of routine and challenging clinical cases. Residents obtain an average of three times the required cardiac cases, more than twice the required neurosurgical cases, and average more than 200 regional blocks each during their training. The University of Missouri has an Enhanced Recovery program using our TIGER protocol, minimally invasive programs such as our TAVR program, while maintaining significant experience in complex open procedures. In addition, opportunities in clinical and basic science research are available for residents. Many of our residents continue with fellowship training in the area of their choosing. Above all, our residents become strong clinicians that are prepared for independent practice.

All required clinical experiences are obtained onsite at our Columbia facilities: University Hospital (Mid-Missouri’s only Level I trauma center), Women's Hospital, Children's Hospital and the Missouri Orthopaedic Institute.

We are looking for residents who have a desire to learn, contribute to the field of anesthesiology, provide support for their fellow residents, and become part of the University of Missouri family. Each year, we accept five residents into our program. Residents may enter our program at the PGY1 (intern) level as a categorical resident, or as a PGY2 (CA1) in a physician (R) residency position.

In addition to the competitive salary and benefits package offered through the University of Missouri GME we provide: opportunities for internal moonlighting, a book and board review allowance, support for conference attendance when presenting, payment for Basic and Advanced exams, access to the TrueLearn question bank and extensive online resources. A full benefit package for the upcoming year will be provided at the interview.
