The School of Medicine offers seven summer programs/fellowships for MU’s first-year/rising second-year medical students. The experiences last between four and eight weeks. Research and clinical opportunities are available. Positions are competitive and limited.

Application Process
Only MU students in their first year of medical school can apply for these positions. Clinical and Med Ed Summer Program applications open on February 3rd and close on March 3rd.
After reviewing all the positions (links above), decide which is your first choice and complete/apply (link to the application can be found at the bottom of each program's page). Please only apply for one position in the 1st round.
Program coordinators (other than Research) will contact applicants with their hiring decisions the week of March 10th. Starting March 17th, students will apply for any open and/or second positions. Priority will go to those who have not secured a position in the first round. Only those positions with availability will still have active application links. No application link means no positions are available. This second Clinical and Med Ed application round will close on March 21st. Program coordinators (other than Research) will make their applicants aware of their hiring decisions for the 2nd round the week of March 24th.
Students who get hired for two positions and would like to gain additional experience by volunteering for another (students can only get paid for up to two positions) can contact the coordinators after March 31st to see if they need additional help. If a volunteer position is found, the student will need to ask Mikka Libbert for a waiver form for both coordinators and students to complete/submit. Check with the coordinators of all positions to make sure work timelines do not overlap.
Summer Research Fellowship applications will be open February 3rd - and close March 21st. Students who accept a Summer Research Fellowship position cannot have a second paid or volunteer position with any other Clinical or Med Ed Summer Program. Note: MU medical students have MU liability coverage for educational activities while registered in courses that are officially recognized by the medical school as training experiences, including the summer fellowship courses without credit.
