The Shelden Clinical Simulation Center offers three course options for BLS for health care provider certifications.

Instructor-Led Course

The AHA’s BLS Provider Course reflects science and education from the 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC. It teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on high-quality CPR and team dynamics.

In the Instructor-led course, students participate in simulated clinical scenarios and learning stations. Students work with an AHA BLS Instructor to complete BLS skills practice and skills testing. Students also complete a written exam.

  • Course length: 4.5 hours
  • Certification: 2 years
  • Fee: $75
  • Includes: BLS for Health Care Providers Student Manual, one-way valve for class use and certification card

Blended eLearning

HeartCode BLS uses a variety of eLearning assets such as dramatizations, eSimulations, animations, self-directed learning, and interactive activities to teach students BLS knowledge and skills. After completing the online portion, students attend a structured BLS Hands-On Session with an AHA Instructor. This session focuses on meaningful skills practice, debriefing, team scenarios, discussions of local protocols, and skills testing. HeartCode BLS is for healthcare professionals seeking an alternative method for completing an initial or renewal BLS Course.
