MedPrep programs help individuals explore careers in health care and guide those interested in medical school through the application process. The workshops are developed for our value-added groups, which include: underrepresented in medicine (URM), socio-economically (SES) disadvantaged, those from rural areas and non-traditional students.

MedPrep Programs

  • Medical Explorations helps rising high school juniors and seniors explore various health careers. This workshop includes an interactive two-week online component and a one-day, on-campus event hosted on the MU campus and Springfield Clinical Campus.
  • Mizzou MedPrep 1 helps college juniors and above gain insight into what makes a well-rounded applicant. During the workshop, participants critically self-assess their experiences and increase their knowledge about the application process to develop an action plan before applying. The sessions include research and teaching; altruism and volunteerism; financial planning; patient-based learning; student and faculty panels; and one-on-one, individualized advising. The program is offered biannually: virtually in January and in person in August.
  • Mizzou MedPrep 2 teaches college juniors and above how to prepare personal statements and enhance interview skills. The workshop previews the medical school application process through AMCAS, explores the importance of recommendation letters and develops strong interviewing skills. This workshop includes a three-week online component and a one-day, onsite workshop.
  • Mizzou MedPrep 3 is a workshop for students newly admitted into the MU School of Medicine. It helps students review the areas of anatomy, biochemistry, cell physiology and pharmacology to prepare for the first year of medical school. It also offers a diversity and inclusion course to promote an inclusive academic health care community.
