The Junior Springfield Pathway Program supports undergraduate students attending a college or university in Springfield, Missouri, who are interested in pursuing a career in medicine. The program provides freshman and sophomore undergraduates with the support needed for a successful high school-to-college transition and provides guidance as students begin the process of building a competitive medical school candidacy.
Successful Junior Springfield Pathway Program participants who have two undergraduate academic years remaining in a four-year institution can apply for the Springfield-Pre-Admission Program. This program provides a provisional acceptance to the University of Missouri School of Medicine Springfield campus pending the student meets all program requirements.
Junior Springfield Pathway program participants will receive:
- Academic support including assistance with schedule planning.
- Informational workshops and hands-on activities at the School of Medicine Springfield campus
- Physician shadowing and volunteer experiences
- Support to encourage overall well-being.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for the Springfield Junior Pathway Program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Be a US Citizen or permanent US resident.
- Be a graduating high school senior from a Springfield, Missouri high school with an acceptance and plan to matriculate full-time into one of the following:
- Drury University
- Evangel University
- Missouri State University
- Ozarks Technical Community College
OR
- Be enrolled as a full-time first semester student at one of the institutions listed above AND a graduate from a Missouri high school.
- Demonstrate potential for strong academic performance (3.3 minimum cumulative GPA).
Application
The application, including all supplemental materials, must be completed and submitted by 11:59 pm, May 21, 2027.
Only completed applications with all required supplemental materials will be considered. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure all required materials are received. Any application materials submitted after May 21 will not be considered.
Required Supplemental materials:
- One letter of recommendation in support of your application is required. The letter may be from a teacher, professor, administrator, employer, physician, or other professional acquaintance. We highly recommend an individual from a science department or with a background in the sciences.
- Applicants must submit a high school transcript from their high school of record.
The Junior Springfield Pathway Program application will be available on January 1.
