Thank you for your interest in the Department of Medicine residency program at the University of Missouri.

If you are interested in a residency with Internal Medicine you must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Applications sent via other modalities (email, fax, USPS, etc.) will not be considered.

Required Documents

Please submit the following through ERAS:

  • Universal Application (ERAS Comm Application Form)
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Medical School Transcript
  • At least three letters of recommendation (Dean's Letter not included)
  • USMLE and/or COMLEX results
  • Personal Statement

Interviews will be by invitation only. Please do not call to check on the status of your application.

Interview Day

When you receive your invitation to interview, you will need to respond as quickly as possible. Interview options are limited. After responding to our invitation, you will receive a confirmation letter with instructions for interview day. This year interviews will be offered online and more detailed instruction will be provided in your invitation.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Are there cut-offs for step scores?
There are no cut-offs. 220 is considered competitive for USMLE and 500 for COMLEX.

Can I apply if I’ve only taken the COMLEX?
Yes

Can I still apply if I failed a step?
Yes. All applications are reviewed and considered on a case-by-case basis.

Are MDs preferred over DOs?
No, both credentials are considered equally.

How many spots will you be filling?
We will be filling six one-year preliminary and 21 three-year categorical positions in Internal Medicine.

Is there a cut-off date for medical school graduation?
Yes, you need to have graduated within the last five years. This means you need to have graduated on or before June 30, 2015. This rule may not apply if you have had clinical experience as a resident or attending in any country during the last five years.

Does your program accept International Medical Graduates (IMGs)?
Yes

What percentage of your residents are IMGs?
This varies from year to year. Currently, our program consists of 30 percent IMGs.

Do you sponsor J1 and H1B visas? 
We only accept J1 visas. We no longer offer H1B Visas

Is ECFMG certification required for IMGs?
ECFMG certification for IMG applicants is not required at time of application but is required before starting with our program in July.

Is U.S. clinical experience required?
No

Do you consider observerships as clinical experience?
No. However, observerships will be taken into consideration.

Are there any countries from which you do not consider applications?
No, applications from all countries are considered.

How will I know if I’ve been selected to interview?
If you are selected to interview, you will receive an email from Interview Broker. Interview requests via phone or email will not be considered.

Can you put me on your waitlist to interview?
If you are selected to be on the waitlist, you will receive an email from Interview Broker. Waitlist requests via phone or email will not be considered.
