Continuity Clinics

Residents practice throughout mid-Missouri:

Columbia, Missouri

South Providence Medical Building is located in Columbia. The Family Medicine Clinic here emphasizes a collaborative care model. Residents work with nurses, care managers, social work, nutrition, behavioral health and outpatient pharmacists. Residents share workspace in a pod, one of the three large, open, workspace areas. This open space design improves communications and collaboration among team members and fellow residents. In addition to the Family Medicine Clinic, South Providence Medical Building is home to a Pediatrics Clinic and Psychiatry Clinic, other services offered at the building include pharmacy, lab and radiology.

Compass Health Network is a federally funded community health center established to expand primary care services to uninsured and underinsured patients in the Columbia area. Residents provide medical and social care to these patients, including a significant number of expectant mothers and Spanish-speaking patients.

Fulton, Missouri

Residents practice at one of two Family Medicine Clinics in Fulton. Fulton is a rural community of 13,000 residents located 25 miles east of Columbia. The clinic offers residents an immersive rural training experience while remaining within easy driving distance of the university and its academic resources. Residents work side by side with faculty to provide comprehensive care across the lifespan while developing meaningful, long-term relationships with patients and families including procedural care, acute illnesses and pediatric care, addiction medicine, reproductive health and obstetric care. Residents also evaluate urgent concerns that might otherwise be managed in an emergency or specialty setting. The breadth and responsibility of this rural continuity experience help residents become confident, resourceful, and procedurally skilled family physicians.

Fayette, Missouri

The Family Medicine Clinic in Fayette, located 30 miles northwest of Columbia, is one of two rural continuity clinic training sites offered in the residency. The Fayette Clinic blends opportunities for full spectrum training in acute/urgent care, chronic care, obstetrical care, procedural care, and preventative care for a rural population. Residents work with a team of dedicated nurses, care managers, behavioral health consultants and clinical pharmacists to provide patient care. The clinic has on-site radiology and laboratory services.

University Hospital

University Hospital is a 390-bed hospital that offers a wide range of services and is the only level I trauma center in Mid-Missouri. Within the hospital, our residents also work in the Emergency Room, Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU), our Family Medicine inpatient service and the Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine consult services.  In June 2024, the New Children’s Hospital and Birthing Center was opened.  The new facilities house the Family Birthing Center for our obstetric rotations, our family maternity care service, and the pediatric center with many pediatric subspecialties to care for our pediatric patients.
