Outside Elective Rotations
Through formal agreement, two electives are available at Washington University in St. Louis:
Advanced Heart Failure - Although fellows in cardiovascular disease obtain substantial experience in the diagnosis and management of advanced heart failure during their fellowship at MU, fellows may apply for participation in the Advanced Heart Failure program at Barnes Jewish Hospital and the Center for Advanced Medicine in St. Louis. The fellow will gain experience in the use of LVADs and cardiac transplantation for patients with advanced heart failure in both the inpatient and outpatient settings. Fellows should begin the application process for this elective six months in advance of the anticipated request date to permit time for legal agreements between MU and Washington University to be completed.
Adult Congenital Heart Disease - Although fellows in cardiovascular disease obtain substantial experience in diagnosis and management of common and uncommon forms of adult congenital heart disease in their continuity clinics, in the echocardiography laboratory, in the cardiac catheterization laboratory, and in the inpatient cardiology services, a fellow may additionally request this elective rotation at Washington University in St. Louis. The adult congenital heart disease clinic at Washington University is one of the top centers in the United States. Fellows should begin the application process for this elective six months in advance of the anticipated request date to permit time for legal agreements between MU and Washington University to be completed.
