We have a fully accredited, categorical residency program in adult neurology. Resident rotations and activities follow the guidelines and requirements of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, and the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
Curriculum Innovations
We have implemented some unique features based on resident experiences and feedback:
- Neuro boot camp The final two to three months of PGY1 are all neurology in which PGY1s work with PGY2s to learn roles as they transition from the first to second year of residency.
- Neuro School This innovative two-week course is for residents going from PGY1 to PGY2. Residents have no assigned clinical rotation during this time. They instead complete a set of daily didactics, a syllabus of daily readings, daily written assessment activities, and a final exam. The daily didactics include lectures, group exercises, patient-based learning [PBL] activities, and simulations, some of which are conducted in the Russell D. and Mary B. Shelden Clinical Simulation Center.
- Night float We use night float for weekdays, not traditional call.
- Continuity clinics Throughout PGY2-4, all continuity clinics are done a week at a time. Every fifth week is half-day each weekday that week; the other half-day each weekday is elective time.
- Generous elective time
- PGY2 - approximately five weeks of half-day elective per day.
- PGY3 - approximately 10 weeks of half-day elective per day with additional weeks of pure elective
- PGY4 - approximately 10 weeks of half-day elective per day with four months of pure elective.
- Innovative “on demand” residency evaluation system& Residents ask for a standardized online evaluation from any attending at any time and no less than once per rotation.
