Training sites
Our clinical work takes place primarily at University of Missouri Health Care, the clinical enterprise at the heart of our academic health system. We also have affiliate sites outside the health system.
MU Health Care sites
University Hospital is the only Level I trauma center and helicopter service in central Missouri. Physicians throughout the state refer many of their most complicated cases to University Hospital. The 390-bed hospital specializes in treating the most severe illnesses and injuries. Our Neurosciences ICU on the seven-story critical care tower provides the latest in medical technology for critically ill or injured patients. Affiliated sites
Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital is part of the Department of Veterans Affairs and serves military veterans. Patients come from all over the state as well as surrounding states. The hospital offers endless opportunities not only for hands-on learning and seeing interesting pathology but to also give back to our veterans. During the PGY1 year with internal medicine, residents rotate through inpatient medicine, ICU, and some consult services. PGY2-4 residents rotate through neurology consult service. Rusk Rehabilitation Hospital, a joint venture of Encompass Health and MU Health Care, is a 60-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital that offers comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services. The Neurology Service offers consultation for patients at Rusk. The Neurology faculty maintain joint appointments at Rusk. Neurology residents may choose additional elective time at this site. Children’s Mercy in Kansas City features a full pediatric neurology service with several pediatric neurology attendings offering a full spectrum of inpatient and outpatient services. Through an affiliation agreement, University of Missouri adult neurology residents do pediatric neurology rotations here in partial fulfillment of their ACGME pediatric neurology three-month training requirement.
